Project Management Tools for Implementing Lean and Six Sigma, because project management is the method of directing the work of an individual team to accomplish all project objectives within the given limitations. Generally this information is usually defined in project plans, developed at the inception of the project. These plans are normally described as requirements and work orders. The main constraints are time, budget, scope. Project Management involves the identification, analysis and acceptance of various approaches, techniques and models.

 

A team consists of at least a single and possibly more team members. Each team member has a responsibility and some tasks to complete in order to complete a project. There can be a variety of combinations of these responsibilities depending on the nature of each project, for example, an architectural team may have different responsibilities than a mechanical team. Project Management is concerned with the management of these various tasks and sub-tasks by team members within a project.

 

There are two main techniques used for project management; namely, Functional and Process. In a functional plan, the project manager describes the overall business needs of the stakeholders. He usually includes the marketing, business analysis and technology sections in his plans. Whereas, process-oriented plans, in which the objective of the project is spelled out in detail, describe the methods and procedures that will be used to achieve it.

 

In the Agile method, this need is specified in the Feature, Function and Logic section of the project plan. The Agile principle is that the feature, function and logic to describe a sequence of activities that build a concept, rather than a set of activities. Therefore, Agile involves less documentation than the Functional or Process management methods. The Agile software development methodologies have become popular with the use of the Small-Business Management (SBM) approach in organizations.

 

Small-Business Management also includes elements of performance management, which aims to optimize the outputs of teams. It refers to the evaluation of the outputs of teams within a project to measure their success and efficiency. Both Lean and Six Sigma programs are significant in the deployment of these principles. Lean methods include continuous flow, which permits teams to continuously deliver on-time, in the absence of interruptions caused by unplanned actions, and incorporates the scheduling of resources into the overall project plan. On the other hand, Six Sigma methodologies apply concepts like the lean cycle, value stream mapping, and problem solving to project management and deploy automated tools to create value.

 

Project management tools need to be updated regularly to keep them current with the changing project schedule. They should provide accurate, complete and up-to-date information so that managers can make correct scheduling decisions. Software tools that support project planning, monitoring and control make this possible. Some of the project management tools that are available include, software, which provides project planning, status reporting, workflow management, and tool for resource planning. These tools help project teams to effectively coordinate, monitor and control their resources, thereby increasing productivity and reducing costs.
